Provincial Funding Information
Increase to provincial funding!! Now 350 provincially funded seats available - to be award by random draw.
To be eligible for the funding draw, members must:
- Request funding no later than 12:00 on September 18, 2024
- Select "Requesting Provincial Funding" on the registration form
- Note: all other registrant categories will not be included in the funding assignment
Locally Funded or Unfunded members are welcome to attend the Education Conference.
Provincial Funding Parameters
As per Membership Policy 065-M-2023, members selected to receive provincial funding will receive the following:
- Salary
- For a scheduled shift (paid provincial union leave), SUN Provincial will reimburse your Employer for one shift per actual day of the event you are attending.
- You will be paid by your employer as if you worked your shift.
- If attending on a day off, SUN Provincial will pay you directly for 8 hours per day of attendance at the event.
- For a scheduled shift (paid provincial union leave), SUN Provincial will reimburse your Employer for one shift per actual day of the event you are attending.
- Travel
- Carpooling is strongly encouraged.
- Roundtrip kilometrage shall be paid to members (drivers only) who must travel in excess of 50 kms (one-way) at a rate determined annually by the Board of Directors in the budget.
- Kilometrage shall be defined as the distance between (direct route) the member’s home town/city and the city/town hosting the event.
- Travel Time
- Members who meet the following criteria shall be eligible to claim for travel time on the day prior:
- If they are scheduled to work a day shift the day before the event, and
- have greater than 3 hours of travel time, or have 200 kilometres or greater to travel.
- Hours of work and travel time shall not exceed 12 hours.
- Members who meet the following criteria shall be eligible to claim for travel time on the day prior:
- Shared Accommodations
- Members selected for provincial funding may be provided funding for a hotel room, dependent upon travel distance of greater than fifty (50) kilometres one-way.
- Booking and payment for accommodations shall be the responsibility of the member. Receipts are required.
- One night hotel accommodations, for the night prior to the event, will be covered by provincial funding for this event.
- Funding reimbursement for accommodation shall be based on two members sharing a standard room.
- Members requesting single occupancy shall be responsible for one-half (1/2) the cost of the room.
- Maximum reimbursement will be determined by the room block set up for the event.
- Meals
- Meal per diems will be provided as determined in budget.
- Per diems will not be provided for meals covered in the event.
- Lunch will be provided for all attendees, regardless of funding status.
- Parking
- Free parking is available at the venue.
Additional Funding Options
Locally Funded Members
- Each SUN Local is responsible for determining the budget and applicable processes for communicating and awarding funding to members to participate in the Education Conference.
- SUN Provincial is not involved in these processes or the awarding and payment of local funding to members.
- Members must speak to their Local Executive for information regarding such processes and to seek the appropriate approvals.

Unfunded Members
- SUN members are welcome and encouraged to attend the Meeting as an unfunded member.
