Given the critical and persistent registered nursing shortages you are all living through, we’ve received an overwhelming amount of interest in attending this year’s Education Conference!

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce they have approved provincial funding for all members to attend the conference who request it.

To be eligible for funding, members must:

1. Request funding no later than 12:00 on October 18, 2023
2. Select "Requesting Provincial Funding" on the registration form
   • Note: all other registrant categories will not be included in the funding assignment

 

Locally Funded or Unfunded members are welcome to attend the Education Conference.

Funding Parameters

As per Membership Policy 065-M-2023, members selected to receive provincial funding will receive the following:

• Salary
  • For a scheduled shift (paid provincial union leave), SUN Provincial will reimburse your Employer for one shift per day of the event you are attending.
    • You will be paid by your employer as if you worked your shift.
  • If attending on a day off, SUN Provincial will pay you directly for 8 hours per day of attendance at the event.
  • Federal and provincial Personal Tax Credit Forms (TD1 & TD1-SK), on file with SUN Provincial, are required
• Travel
  • Carpooling is strongly encouraged.
  • Roundtrip kilometrage shall be paid to members (drivers only) who must travel in excess of 50 kms (one-way) at a rate determined annually by the Board of Directors in the budget.
  • Kilometrage shall be defined as the distance between (direct route) the member’s home town/city and the city/town hosting the event. 
• Hotel Accommodations
  • Hotel accommodations are not covered by provincial funding for this event.
• Meals
  • Meal per diems will be provided as determined in budget.
  • Per diems will not be provided for meals covered in the event.
  • Lunch will be provided for all attendees, regardless of funding status.
• Parking
  • Free parking is available at the venue.
• **NEW** Members Travelling Greater than 12 hours
  • Travel greater than 12 hours is inclusive of the event.
  • Such members may be eligible for hotel accommodations the night prior to the event and per diems for meals not covered by the event.
  • Members selected for funding and travelling greater than 12 hours are required to have such funding confirmed,  in advance of the event, with the First Vice-President.

Locally Funded Members

• Each SUN Local is responsible for determining the budget and applicable processes for communicating and awarding funding to members to participate in the Education Conference.
• SUN Provincial is not involved in these processes or the awarding of local funding to members.
• Members must speak to their Local Executive for information regarding such processes and to seek the appropriate approvals.

Unfunded Members

• SUN members are welcome and encouraged to attend the Meeting as an unfunded member.
